Dr. Sara Kathryn Smith is a pediatric gastroenterologist who diagnoses and treats a wide range of gastrointestinal disorders. As a fellowship-trained pediatric transplant hepatologist, she specializes in caring for young liver transplant patients before and after surgery. She also has a special interest in managing viral hepatitis and autoimmune hepatitis in children.

Smith's research focuses on the evaluation and treatment of viral hepatitis in children, including enrolling patients in clinical trials for hepatitis B and hepatitis C. She also studies the diagnosis and management of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease in children.

After earning her medical degree at the Medical College of Georgia, Smith completed a residency in pediatrics at Holtz Children's Hospital at the University of Miami./Jackson Memorial Medical Center She then completed a fellowship in gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition at Rady Children's Hospital – San Diego, followed by an advanced fellowship in pediatric transplant hepatology at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital.

Smith belongs to the American Academy of Pediatrics, American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases, and North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition.
