Hannah Decker, M.D., a General Surgery PGY-2 resident, was presented with the 2020 Krevans Award in recognition of her clinical and professional excellence throughout her intern year at the Priscilla Chan and Mark Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center (ZSFG). The Krevans Award recognizes "excellence in patient care, as exemplified by clinical competence, professional conduct, concern for patients and interaction with all level of staff, including peers." Johannes R. Kratz, M.D. and Yeranuí Ledesma, M.D. are among this year's recipients of the 2017 UCSF Health Exceptional Physician Award. Dr. Kratz, now a member of the Thoracic Oncology Program and Assistant Professor in the Division of Adult Cardiothoracic Surgery, and Dr. Ledesma, a Senior Resident in General Surgery, were among 8 winners out of 61 nominees, notably the only clinical fellow and resident, respectively, at UCSF to receive the award, and the only recipients not on the faculty.  The official announcement reads: We are delighted to announce the 2017 UCSF Health Exceptional [...]

Evan C. Werlin, M.D., a Resident Research Fellow in General Surgery, is the recipient of the The Teaching Excellence Award for Cherished Housestaff (T.E.A.C.H.) from the UCSF School of Medicine. The official announcement reads: Each year the graduating UCSF medical school class presents the T.E.A.C.H. award to only five residents who have been outstanding teachers, mentors, and role models to medical students during their clinical years at UCSF. The 30th Annual J. Engelbert Dunphy Resident Research Symposium was held on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at UCSF Mission Bay Hospital, Oberndorf Auditorium.  The symposium showcases the laboratory research of residents, fellows and medical students in the Department of Surgery, and honors the life and accomplishments of J. Engelbert Dunphy, M.D., a legendary surgeon and former Chair of the UCSF Department of Surgery. Winners for the best presentations were awarded at the conclusion of the program. Lucy Kornblith, MD, a research fellow in the UCSF General Surgery Residency Program and member the Cohen Lab led by her research mentor, Mitchell J. Cohen, M.D., was recently awarded the Earl Young Award for 2014 from the Western Trauma Association. (Last year the award went to another UCSF General Surgery resident, Matt Kutcher, MD.) The annual 26th Annual J. Engelbert Dunphy Resident Research Symposium was held on April 5, 2013. The award for "Best Abstract" went to Robert Bell, MD with runners-up Jessica Beard, MD, MPH and Randi Smith, MD MPH.  Xiaoti Xu, MD received the award  for "Best Quick Shot".  Jack Harbell, MD and Cristina O'Donohue, MD received Honorable Mention certificates for their presentations.
